With over 20 years in the wine industry, Owner J.J. Compeau has a strong love for Washington Wines. He truly loves the "ALL IN" mentality of a small winery. Working in many facets of the business has brought a wealth of knowledge and friendships. NW Wine Collaborative is committed to telling the story of the Northwest through highly crafted wine.

We are a small, family-owned winery with the sole purpose to deliver wine of quality and value to our customers. Quality to us is consistency and reliability. We want you to trust the wine. That the quality exceeds the price in our mind is value, and that it is tangible in the glass. You can taste it. The name NW Wine Collaborative came out of the desire to work with friends and colleagues that we look up to and the versatility that the name gives to the winery. We will make wine from all over the Northwest.

Our mission is to collaborate with amazing growers and winemakers to produce small lot wines that are buzzworthy, well-priced and simply delicious.

Winemaker Richard Funk and his wife, Anita, both natives of Montana, moved to Walla Walla in 1991.  Saviah is a family name from Anita’s great-grandmother, a schoolteacher, artist and author, who settled in western Montana in the early 1900s.  The family’s heritage is also reflected in their Star Meadows White Wine, named after the location of the original family homestead; the Une Vallée Red Wine inspired by the current family homestead called “One Valley”; and the Big Sky Cuvée in honor of their Montana roots.  THE JACK family of wines, named after Saviah’s husband and Anita’s great-grandfather, has quickly become an iconic brand that over-delivers quality at a friendly price.

In 2014, we left our careers in California for a new life in the Pacific Northwest, seeking our place in the wine industry. After Matt returned to school to study enology and spent time working with several Washington wineries, we stumbled upon a small vineyard on the Southside of Walla Walla.

Planted with uncommon Italian varieties, these 5 acres became Grosgrain Vineyards, a wine company dedicated to championing underdog grapes, sparkling wines, low intervention winemaking, and sustainable farming practices.

In 2007, two years before the Lake Chelan AVA was approved, an upstart winery with a strange spelling, located in a valley known for apples, not wine grapes, burst upon the Northwest wine scene when Tsillan Cellars won Best of Show honors in two major wine competitions.  Twelve years later Tsillan Cellars continues to set viticulture and winemaking standards for the Lake Chelan AVA with over 400 Gold, Double Gold, Best of Class and Best of Show awards in major wine competitions.

This year’s results from the Wine Press Northwest Magazine further established Tsillan Cellars reputation as one of the most award wineries in Washington State. Every year all gold medal winning wines from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia are invited to compete in the “Best of the Best” wine competition. Each year only a few among the Northwest’s top wines are bestowed Platinum and the rare Double Platinum honors.  Tsillan Cellars submitted twelve of their gold medal wines to this years’ competition. The estate grown wines were awarded one Double Platinum, two Platinum, five Double Gold and four Gold medals in the “Best of the Best” judging. With over 2000 wineries in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia Tsillan Cellars is number fourteen on the all- time list of Platinum winners with a total of seventeen Platinum and Double Platinum awards.

In January the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the world’s largest judging of North American wines, announced that Tsillan Cellars wines were awarded Double Gold and Gold medals for their estate grown 2017 Gewurztraminer, 2016 Sangiovese and 2016 Reserve Syrah.  Tsillan Cellars wines have been awarded over twenty Gold, Double Gold and Best of Class awards in the San Francisco Competition in the past ten years.

Dr. Bob Jankelson, founder and owner of Tsillan Cellars, attributes the unique growing conditions of Lake Chelans’ South Shore, the dedication of his long- time vineyard foreman, Bal Flores, and quality of Tsillan Cellars winemaking program now headed by veteran winemaker, Ray Sandidge, for producing world class estate wines from the shores of Lake Chelan.
